The Importance of Processes:

In my world of web development, processes are like the compass guiding us through the vast digital landscape. I specialize in creating high-performing WordPress websites that serve as the beating heart of a business’s digital presence. These websites must seamlessly integrate with a client’s systems and processes to operate as a 24/7 employee. Our focus extends beyond traditional online advertising; we’re all about optimizing the entire digital ecosystem.

Robust processes are essential, whether it’s for lead generation, client onboarding, building, or wrapping up a project. These processes streamline our work, making life easier for us and ensuring our clients get the best possible results.

Breaking the Mold:

However, as much as I emphasize processes, I’m also acutely aware of the nuances of client experience. Sometimes, clients come along who don’t neatly fit into our predefined processes or packages. They’re the exceptions that challenge the rule. Let me share a personal example.

Vibes matter. The client’s site was built using tools I trusted, and our initial conversation went exceptionally well. This alignment, combined with her specific requirements, convinced me to take on the project, even if it meant deviating from our standard packages.

So, how do you decide when it’s okay to break from your processes? Here are some questions to ask yourself:

1. Are There Red Flags?

  • Assess the client’s communication and responsiveness.
  • Ensure they provide clear and concise answers during consultations.
  • Evaluate the overall vibe of the project and client relationship.

2. Does It Fit Your Niche or Passion?

  • Consider whether the project aligns with your business’s niche or your personal passion.
  • Passion can fuel your motivation and creativity, even in custom projects.

3. Is It Likely to Succeed?

  • Gauge the project’s potential for success.
  • Trust your instincts and experience to determine if it’s a worthwhile endeavor.

Balancing Boundaries:

Maintaining boundaries is crucial, even when you deviate from your standard processes. Your boundaries define your work and how you operate. While it’s okay to bend them occasionally, you should never compromise on what truly matters to you.

For instance, I’m adamant about using email as the primary mode of communication. Phone calls are a boundary I won’t cross. Upholding these boundaries ensures that I can deliver quality work without feeling overwhelmed.
